This photo of Sinatra
came to light in the 1980s when the FBI released Sinatra's files. An FBI report
stated that they had learned that Sinatra had a criminal record in Bergen County,
New Jersey. FBI agents went to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack where they
located the photograph and the arrest information. According to the file, Sinatra
was arrested on November 26, 1938 and charged with 'Seduction' (this is shown
on the document reproduced under the photograph). The charge was soon dismissed,
but was quickly followed on December 22 with a charge of adultery. It seems that
the complaint was filed by a woman who - it turned out - was married. The adultery
charge was speedily dismissed. Neither of these two charges would be against
the law today.
